ability... . the cheshire cat, or better known as the waning grin, is a skill of stealth. one that allows cheshire to move freely without being seen by others. she is also able to see through solid objects like walls, boxes, etc. her ability is used as a means of spying and gaining information for the order of the clock tower but also for herself. not only can she see through solid objects, but she is also able to transport herself through the solidness of walls and doors when necessary. the only set-back is that if one pays enough close attention they are able to see the grin of a woman, which gained her the nickname the waning grin. in order to avoid this, she wears a mask while on the job to keep her lips from being seen.
personality. sarcastic and confident in nature, cheshire is often known to be difficult to approach and head-strong. however, she lacks the same confidence when it comes to her family, torn down by the years of mental and physical abuse she's gone through.

01. cheshire began using the name of her skill when she was in her early teens. the name catarina only brings her bad memories of the strict and stifling household she grew up in where she was addressed as lady catarina.
02. cheshire comes from a wealthy background, her parents direct endorsers for the order of the clock tower. because of their lack of skills, they practically sold their daughter into the organization as soon as she learned how to manipulate her own skill (around 6 years old). she spent most of her time either receiving private tutoring there or in her family’s home.
03. her parents were horrified to hear that she would have a child in her teens, but in their eyes it was also a chance at a business transaction - the father’s family standing alongside them in wealth and power. before she was showing, they had her married off and sent to live alongside him. what the parents of a frightened teenage girl weren’t aware of was his skill; one that his own family had been keeping a secret from everyone.
04. ellis was born into a home of a woman who would do anything to get out and a man whose skill transformed him into a dangerous beast (more about the jabberwocky skill in ellis’ bio here). as the years blended into each other, she distracted herself with the work that came from the order. although she tried to leave, the impact of her husband’s family on agatha was too strong and she was told to take the secret to the grave, using her ability and position as his wife to keep an eye on him for her.
05. when her son went missing it was both the worst and best thing for her to hear. on one hand, she hated the idea of her little boy being alone in the world - most likely joining the guild. but on another hand, she was glad he had left the broken home she couldn’t hold together.
06.unknown to agatha and the others who she answers to regarding her husband’s skill, she is living in her own apartment and hasn’t spoken to him since the disappearance of her son. she also uses her skill in order to try and find something to use against agatha. she really hates her.

ability... . through the looking glass allows him to use reflective surfaces such as mirrors, highly reflective glass, etc. as means of transportation as long as he has seen it once (this can include seeing it in person as well as photographs). his ability is much more “scientific” than he likes to think, each reflective surface having a set of numbers and letters that correspond with the dimension he calls the “hall of mirrors”.
he has the ability to physically reside in this “hall of mirrors”, which is similar to the room that alice landed in upon falling through the rabbit hole. the longest he’s stayed here is a week as this dimension has an effect on the body and he becomes weaker over time. behind each closed door is a mirror-like surface that seems to be solid but can be traveled through like a liquid. anyone can enter the hall of mirrors and leave as long as they are either touching him or holding something that belongs to him (piece of clothing, journal, etc.) however the latter only works when he wills it. even if someone has something of his, if he doesn’t want them to pass, they cannot do so. one way to enter without his knowledge, would be to grab his hand before he disappears into the glass.
if one looks closely enough at a reflective surface, they may be able to see the faint outline of a boy and feel the body heat radiating from the glass and know he’s spying.
personality. ellis is quiet and child-like, never really having left his own home before he turned 15. he is also filled with a constant anxiety that he has done something wrong, but will try to seem as confident in himself as he can, constantly learning from those around him.

01. ellis’ parents worked for the order of the clock tower, his mother having a skill known as the cheshire - this granted her safe passage without being seen by others and also disregarded solid walls/buildings/etc. it’s assumed that ellis’ skill is in a way linked to her own because of their similarities.
02. his father’s skill, jabberwocky, was and will forever be the biggest fear in ellis’ life. his father was prone to outbursts of anger and he learned early that not every skill can be manipulated in ways to gain information or to help others - these fits of anger were accompanied by extreme strength and fury, something not human. it was because of his father’s skill that he first learned of his own, hiding himself in the warmth of a nearby mirror until he felt the pains of hunger and the weakness in his body.
03. much of his childhood was spent hiding away in the hall of mirrors due to the hostility in his home, always alone with his father who was only used by the order of the clock tower when absolutely necessary.
04. because his skill was similar to his mother’s, one that could be used to gain information that the order of the clock tower wanted to possess, the assumption was that he would be the heir to his mother’s position. however, the guild set eyes on him hoping that his ability would work well alongside lucy’s in its ability to hold others captive.
05. the guild quickly offered the order of the clock tower a large sum of money, that of which was denied due to his mother’s position. but to ellis, it was a way out. ellis left with the promise of never having to go back and that was enough for him, agreeing to whatever they wanted him to do which now includes the occasional spying and pulling people in. because he can bring others, it’s become even a means of transportation for the guild members.

ability... . frankenstein’s monster gives "life" to inanimate objects. this only works for objects that are not living, as such she cannot control a person. however, she does have the ability to control the things on their person (she could control the necklace around someone's neck so let that sink in).
mary's strength depends on what it is she is controlling. many small things (hundreds of pebbles) and one or two larger things (a car and shipping container) take the same amount of energy. it is also easier to control objects the closer they are to herself, so she's often thrown into the front lines of any battle. she's used to it, though, she enjoys the adrenaline. mary's ability messes with her mind and over time, she has begun to crave the power that comes with the control. she has a sinister nature to begin with but it's nothing compared to when her ability is in motion.
personality. mary is very materialistic, attached to the wealth she has gotten her hands on. she's been spoiled for long enough that she has become what others call rotten. although this isn't her typical demeanor, it is very present. she knows how to act depending on the situation. she can also be quite sinister, her own trauma throwing off the balance of right or wrong.

01. hungry and alone, the effects of war seen in the burning of buildings and bodies piling high. how had she gotten here? her heart felt like it would beat out of her chest as she ran from the mess, searching for a way out. she was one of the many orphans due to the losses of the great war. and one of the few taken in for her ability to become a machine against the enemies. she didn't even know what side she was fighting for... but what did it matter? death painted every side's final picture. and soon the blood that stained her own hands was worn with a wicked smile as her psyche was bent and broken.
02. she was adopted by a wealthy family intrigued by her skill, hopeful that having her around would prove to be useful. it would be an understatement to say that she acclimated well. mary grew skilled in anything they asked; music, painting, writing, poetry. she was becoming the little weapon they'd asked for - and to make things better, a possible heir to their enterprise.
03. her new family was rarely around. they sent tutors to guide her in different fields of study and there were enough people working in the manor that she could have her any need fulfilled. as her behavior grew more rotten, she began to not care what the truth behind her adoption was. the red flags were all there, but she wouldn't complain. if her adoptive family wanted to raise a weapon, she would let them.
04. she met fyodor completely by chance, enchanted and charmed not only by his musical skill but also by how she could never understand how his mind worked and the murderous intent he carried around like it was as normal as a handbag. it made her own memories of death and destruction feel almost normal.
05. attached to him as she was, although never pressing for affection herself (he was like the teddy behind the glass of a toy store), mary could only agree with the wicked smile she wore so well to join the organization he led.

FRANKIE ELIZA HODGSON HIROTSU

ability... . the secret garden is an ability that was passed on to her from her mother, along with a lock and key. it gives frankie the ability to grow and manipulate flowering vines however in order to use her ability, the key must be inserted into the lock.
personality. despite the trauma that frankie has gone through, she is quite eccentric and is known to run around headquarters with little to no care in the world, making the world her own playground. she takes things very personally and will hold onto things people say, making her easily manipulated by the executives of the mafia.

tw: child torture, child abuse

01. frankie’s mother was originally from england but due to her association with the special division for unusual powers in japan, she traveled for work back and forth. due to this, frankie was born in yokohama. however, her mother was often away for work and as an infant, frankie was cared for by nannies and babysitters.
02. a conflict with the port mafia occurred when frankie was four, leaving her without family and with the ability that her mother had possessed. the lock was worn on a necklace while the key dangled from a bracelet. she was found by hirotsu in a pile of rubble left behind. perhaps it was because of the pity he felt for the young child, but hirotsu took a young frankie in and gave her a home in the mafia. it wasn’t the best place to raise a child and hirotsu was less than skilled in caretaking but to him, it may have been a better option than the life of an orphan - more likely to be thrown to the slums than anything.
03. when it was found out that the key and lock that she carried around were part of her ability, mori made it his goal to figure out how to take best advantage of an ability like hers. hirotsu, hoping that a decline to do so would prevent the girl from being tortured, was sorely mistaken and the task was left to paul verlaine. mori keeps the lock and key hidden away, only allowing executives and commanders to utilize her ability when necessary.
04. there is a scar on her cheek that was the result of one of the many times that she’d been tortured in order to find her ability’s uses. after being forced to root her ability to her own skin, it was an indescribable pain that is now a scarred reminder. she has no feeling in that side of her face as the nerves have all been destroyed. she was lucky that her eye was kept intact.
05. she doesn’t know her original last name. when she joined the mafia, all traces of her previous life were wiped away and it was made to look like the child had died alongside her mother. all legal documents have her as an adopted child so her last name is technically hirotsu but she’s never been made aware of this - mori has gone so far to psychologically damage her that he’s made her think that she doesn’t even have a name (im fine im not)

story 01. she missed the warmth of their inazuma home as soon as they made their way to snezhnaya. the new home that would be the base for most of her parents work in their investigations to bring down the fatui. she didn’t understand enough - wasn’t told enough - about the dangers that her parents had thrown themselves into. she’d always known that blending into the background was something she did best, only observing from the sidelines and never understanding the full picture. in the eyes of young kyouka, they were as safe as they could be - simply in a newer and stranger place.
story 02. the family was attacked soon after their arrival, word had gotten out about a family from inazuma with the goal of taking down the cryo archon. kyouka stared at the image before her in shock, strangers with weapons pointed at her dear mother and father ; just two frightened eyes watching from behind a closet door with no way to save them. she couldn’t help but think - if only she was brave enough to push past those doors and run for help. it was the sound of a crying child that brought her parent’s enemies to find her - frightened and shaking. and in a final message to send back to the organization behind it all, she was stolen away in the night, leaving the bloodied bodies of her parents behind and never seeing their smiling faces again.
story 03. kyouka was imprisoned for some time, the fatui deciding what her fate would be and how they could use her. to their surprise, she was adaptable and easily manipulated, heart broken and numb from the pain of losing the only ones she’d ever held dearly. it was decided by the tsaritsa to give this girl a delusion, allow her to possess the power of cryo, and train her to defeat the enemies of the fatui and snezhnaya. in doing so, she could someday gain back her freedom and find out the truth behind her parent’s death. this, of course, was all a lie.
04. how many years had it been since she had come here? how many people had she seen take their last breath at the end of her sword. a skill granted to her by the delusion hanging from her waist was that of demon snow, ruthless and cold-blooded like the ice that emitted from its blade. kyouka’s eyes became dark, the childlike gaze from before her arrival in snezhnaya long gone. at night, she would read stories of a city of freedom, faintly recognizing the name from the stories her parents had told of their travels. but just remembering the stories was enough that she felt her heart ache. if they knew what she did now, what would they think of her?
05. she’d watched those around her come and go, bodies giving away under the pressure of the delusions they possessed, and others who were unable to carry out their duties stripped of the only power they had. looking down at her own, cold to the touch, kyouka finally understood that she would never learn the truth of her parents and that the possibility of freedom was a pipe dream to someone like her - someone who killed simply because she was told to.
vision. on the night of her escape, her ears rang with the rushing of blood to her head and she could barely stand - her legs shaking far too much just at the thought. sneaking out of the window that night, she left behind the cryo delusion along with the person they’d molded her into. the ambitions to leave, to become someone that her parents would be proud of, forced her toward the story-book dreams. and when she’d finally crossed the border out of snezhnaya, what hung on her waist wasn’t a delusion - but a vision.
about wandering. after leaving snezhnaya, the girl stumbled into mondstadt, the story-book city of freedom. it was here that she began her wandering, searching for answers to her questions and companions on her journey. the demon snow she uses now is much kinder, keeping her company when she feels at her limit and being a hand to hold rather than one that throws her down. still, she can’t help but feel the guilt her past brings along with it.

personality.. mei nyan can seem to be very standoffish, feeling different from the crowd even when she was a child. some of it came from the strange stories her father told her but more than that it came from the awe that she could inspire in others at her natural skill, that of which she assumed was normal being raised alongside a brother who was very much the same. while in some cases she does see herself as more important than others, thinking she should enjoy more than a typical citizen after what she’s done for liyue, she is also very humble in her actions and will always stand for the safety of the people around her.
her illness is something she finds to be quite the burden, refusing to accept the fate that has been placed upon her. she often is known to wander around liyue without notice to her healers and without taking proper medicine beforehand, only to be found passed out on a rock somewhere. still, she won’t let herself be held back.

appearance... mei nyan has very pale hair and eyelashes, striking some as quite shocking upon their first gaze. her hair is tied into two loose and small buns on top of her head, some bangs fall over her forehead and frame her face while the rest falls over her shoulders and behind her back. she often has an expression that seems to be stern with sharp eyes, but that usually means she’s thinking. her vision hangs where the knot of cloth sits on her waist. OUTFIT INSPIRATION HERE.

story 01. mei nyan is the daughter of a general and sister of a high ranking officer of the millelith so it was no surprise to anyone when she grew into a position of her own. what did shock the masses, however, was her strength as well as agility in battle. she could easily win in a fight against her opponents in mock battles and had little trouble in the real ones while she did her rounds.
she grew up being told of stories of many generations ago, when a defender of liyue had succumbed to the karmic debt he possessed, leaving a family line with the reminders in the sickness that would be passed down each generation. there were of course lucky ones who could avoid such, but when she was 16, both her father and brother's illnesses peaked and she was left alone. knowing her duty and feeling that the only way she could fight against the sands of time for herself, she took her father’s place leading those who were to defend liyue without complaint.
story 02. she caught the eye of ningguang and the other qixing and was often invited to the jade chamber as a guest, building important relationships not just in politics but in personal friendships as well. unfortunately, she was but a few years into her time as a general when she began to grow very weak at the most inopportune times. it was the illness that she’d known would come for her sooner or later. she had just hoped for a few more years before the onset of fatigue and constant migraines began.
story 03. it was with the help of ningguang that she was able to find a new life in heyu tea house. she keeps her illness as a strictly need to know topic as she hates to be pitied more than anything else in the world. but it is difficult to do so when she has healers coming to visit her more than once a day, checking in more than mei nyan thinks is necessary. a host at the tea house, she was quick to grow into the new role, a natural at small - talk and keeping guests happy.
vision. mei found her vision soon after she found out that her father and brother had begun to grow weak. she was nearly 14 when her brother’s migraines started and she could tell that her father was growing weaker with every passing month. it was then that she decided that she would climb the ranks of the millelith, defending not only liyue but the honor of her family. for if those stories her father spoke were true, she would never let them pass the walls of the small home occupied by the three. her relentless training would not only show in the sweat on her brow but also in the vision that sparkled under the moonlight.

personality.. yotaka has a very stern personality which made him quite the candidate for leading an army. however, he’s still patient when needed and prides himself in taking all things into consideration before striking down against someone or something. yotaka is not spiteful, nor does he hold a grudge. he believes that anyone is capable of change if they really want it to happen. he is extremely loyal to what he believes in and considering he believes in the shogun, that is where 110% of his loyalty lies.
appearance... yotaka has always been pampered, even in his adulthood he enjoys to keep up the youthful glow of his skin and hair. his long hair is a silver (almost grey) color that reaches down his back and is often compared to a lion’s mane. he has sharp eyes that match the color of his hair with long lashes. although he is one of the strongest fighters in inazuma, one would never guess based on his physical build - he looks rather tall and slender and lacks any defining muscles. plus, he hides whatever muscles he does have beneath layers of clothing. this is what his fit looks like because i literally could not find anything remotely similar to what my mind was thinking so i had to do it myself. image here

story 01. yotaka's parents were part of the tenryou commission but both very frail in his youth due to their bad health. still, he was pampered because of their influence with the shogun and army, his mother working as a strategist for the army for most of his childhood.
story 02. when the vision hunt decree began and the news of a resistance broke out, yotaka pledged full obedience and loyalty to the shogun which allowed him to keep his vision for the time being. he would use it to lead forces of her army alongside kujou sara. there were moments when his ability to believe in what the vision hunt decree stood for began to break, he never faltered in his faithfulness toward the shogun. internally, there was a constant struggle between his ideals as a vision holder and follower of the archon of inazuma.
story 03. some time during the confrontations between the shogun’s army and the resistance, yotaka was injured in battle and was forced to stay on the sidelines in order to recover. after some time away, he was shocked to hear the news of possible peace and relieved to hear the vision hunt decree was finally over.
vision. those in the tenryou commission are known to tell stories of the young child who would travel to narukami shrine day after day, praying to the archon for hours at a time. his loyalty to her knew no bounds, even as a young child as he would wish for the nation’s peace and prosperity. on one of his trips up the mountain, he took a misstep and found himself dangling at the edge of a cliffside. the teen was able to pull himself up from the dangers of falling, breath lost from the endeavor. he didn’t turn around, nor did he go home, after such a frightening encounter. instead, he continued to run up the mountain and fall on his knees on the steps of the shrine. he didn’t even know that he had been gripping something under white knuckles the entire journey up the mountain until the shrine’s head priestess asked him how he got what was in his hand.

story 01. what are you so afraid of? pain? isolation? nothingness?
a soft voice echoed in his ears, his senses overwhelmed with the scent of fresh flowers and the coolness of crumbling dirt beneath his face. had he been resting here? where is here?
lids flutter open, blue eyes meeting the green one's of a stranger. she was gentle, tended to the wounds that hadn't healed and made no efforts to pry for information from him. despite the reluctance to receive care and the sharp tongue that he used to spit one-word answers at her, she never wavered in her ambition to ease his pain.
story 02. many days and nights passed as he continued to stay in her care. every time she touched him, he would tense up in fear. being near humans created tension in his shoulders, afraid of their presence - he feared for their fragileness, one wrong move and their weak bodies could be crushed. he knew deep-down that he must protect these weak creatures, that was his duty as one of the adepti. the reasons to such were unknown, a foggy confusion always filling his mind when such thoughts lingered.
story 03. licai. he learned of her name on the same night she finally asked him where he came from. his beast-like body had healed the various injuries quickly, leaving him with nowhere to go and for licai to finally press for answers. his own heart stopped beating in his chest, head fogged over from the confusion of the question.
his injuries must have occured during the battles, he thought.
story 04. as licai listened to his words, her gentle expression was replaced with that of her own confusion, head tilting to the side in an effort to understand. 2000 years has passed since the war he described. but he spoke of it like it had occurred just a few days ago - the day she'd found him injured and unconscious before the gates of liyue harbor.
05. through the confusion and strangeness of realizing how much time had passed and how different the land had become, jia found solace in the liuli pavilion alongside licai, enjoying the warmth of her companionship and friendliness as well as having a familiar place to venture to when he finds himself wanting to taste the food of humans.

♡ jia has lost all memories since the archon war where he fought by the side of morax and the god of dust, guizhong. it is unknown as to why his memories have been lost. however, just as the other adepti have the duty to protect liyue, there is some underlying instinct to do so in him (most likely from the contract between adepti and morax).
♡ he is extremely afraid of interacting with humans. not because he fears humans but rather he fears that they are so weak that they are easily broken.
♡ licai has agreed to help him actively seek out the truth behind the last 2000 years, and especially what happened the day she found him (licai is a canon npc who works for liuli pavilion i have simply headcanoned her character in order to fit jia's story).
♡ although he doesn't remember, he has in fact lived the last 2000 years traveling through the parts of liyue that humans do not venture to. it is also believed that he may have possibly been hidden away for some time in a sub-space creation, or abode of his own creation.
♡ his memories of the archon war continue to haunt him. the last clear memory he has is the death of guizhong - who he was particularly attached to and was the closest thing he ever had to a mother figure.
♡ guizhong's tenderness toward humans is another driving force in jia's attempt to care for them, worrying constantly over their well-being and safety.

personality.. charli is very well put together and presentable with a typical smile on his face ; those in the senate find charli to be quite agreeable and pleasant. however, for those who have had the joy of meeting his malnomen that works directly with charlatan, they find him to be completely opposite. charli doesn't find an issue with his malnomen, enjoying the courage and spontaneity of it. rather than seeing it as a different entity, he just sees it as a separate version of himself that's been hiding away and was just given a reason to wake up.
charlatan.... charli's malnomen, known as the jester, works directly with charlatan's chilling presence. similar to naenia, the jester possesses the ability to be in charlatan's parade.

01. charli's parents were students of ruthven's. when they died (reasons unknown), the adolescent was asked to live within ruthven's sight. ruthven's goal was for charli to be his student. he feels indebted to ruthven for taking him in at all.
02. he joined ruthven's involvement in charlatan very early on, gaining a malnomen of his own in the process. little is really known about his malnomen and why he is able to keep himself together when the need appears which could be a big reason ruthven keeps him around. ruthven has never had to control him, he pretty much does whatever the man wants. although it's not like he won't complain about it. charli isn't afraid to criticize ruthven or talk back either.
03. charli is particularly skilled in reading a room and pleasing those he finds to be an important step in his ladder of success. it's how he was able to obtain a seat in the senate so easily.
04. he enjoys blue moons and will often dance under the glowing light late into the evenings. considering he knows the truth behind malnomens at the moment, the stories don't scare him like they do other vampires.
05. he complains about not having a particularly eventful life up until his joining of charlatan but has decided to "rewrite" his story and create as much chaos and enjoyment as he can.
06. charli finds those who follow rules to be a bore and will put on a fake smile for so many of the senate members that he has to deal with. only to later complain someone's ear off about their stuffiness.
